Overview
Binary is used in computers because it has only two states, while octal and hexadecimal make long binary numbers easier to write. Base conversion relies on place value: each digit is multiplied by a power of the base. The calculator converts the input to its decimal value first, then writes that value in the target base.
Formula
Binary example: 1010₂ = 1×2³ + 0×2² + 1×2¹ + 0×2⁰ = 10₁₀.

Worked examples
Example 1: 1010₂ to decimal
1×8 + 0×4 + 1×2 + 0×1 = 10.
Example 2: 255₁₀ to hexadecimal
255 = 15×16 + 15 = FF₁₆.
Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator support decimal fractions?
No, it converts whole numbers only.
What does the 0x prefix mean?
It indicates a hexadecimal number, such as 0xFF, which equals 255.
Why are letters shown in uppercase?
The letters A–F represent values 10–15, and letter case does not change the value.
